Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect and evaluate even a defective slanting to an ultrasonic wave beam, transmitted from a probe, by setting a reflector at the skip point of the beam and by measuring the extent of attenuation of an echo from an ultrasonic-wave reflector. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic wave transmitted from a probe 1 is incident to a steel plate 2 as shown by a route 3 and travels while reflected by top and reverse boundary surfaces, but skip points change according to the plate thickness of the steel plate 2. According to a change in skip point, an ultrasonic-wave reflector 17 is fixed with a screw 19 where a maximum reflection echo is obtained. In this state when the oblique flaw detection of the steel plate 2 is performed, the echo from the reflector 17 apears at a constant position at a distance from the beam route 3 all the time at a perfect part free of defection, and for a defective having a reflective surface at right angles to the beam, a defective echo appears in the beam route 3; and the echo from the reflector 17 attenuates in proportion to the size of the defective. When there is a detective slanting to the beam, the beam is cut off and the echo from the reflector 17 also disapears.
