Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a method of forming a negative image with high sensitivity and contrast by the quick development of a silver saving photographic sensitive material with physically developing unclei while maintaining the superior shelf stability of a developer, by adding a specified compound to a constituent layer of the photographic material. CONSTITUTION:A sensitive element is imagewise exposed. The element contains a compound represented by the formula[where Z is a group of nonmetallic atoms required to form a 5- or 6-membered ring, Q is O, S, Se or =NR<3>, each of R<1> and R<2> is (substituted) alkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl or aryl, R<3> is (substituted) alkyl or aryl, L is methine, and each of m and n is 1 or 2]together with sensitive silver halide particles (component 1), AgCl particles (component 2) obtd. by difficultly solubilizing the surfade of AgCl having higher solubility than the component 1 with a difficultly solubilizing agent, and physically developing unclei (component 3). The exposed element is processed with a processing soln. contg. a substance capable of dissolving the component 2 to deposit a metallic silver image on the component 3. Thus, a photographic image is obtd. quickly, and the deterioration of a developer in the shelf stability due to precipitation is prevented.
