Abstract
PURPOSE: To thoroughly remove the fins which are the slag produced on both sides of a slab by rotating rotators formed by grinders just behind the scarfer.
CONSTITUTION: Holding arms 18, 18 are lowered by pressing cylinders 15, and rotating rotators 20, 20 are pressed to the top surface of a slab S, by which fins 31, 31 are ground off. Since the rotators 20, 20 are provided behind a nozzle 8, there is a spacing by (l) between the scarfing start point of the nozzle 8 and the lowermost point of the rotators 20, 20 at the time when scarfing is started. Therefore, the timing when the rotators 20, 20 are pressed by the cylinders 15 while being rotated is delayed in time from the scarfing start time according to the speeds of a dolly 1. At the end of scarfing, too, the ascending timing of the rotators 20, 20 is delayed in time in a similar manner, whereby the fins 31, 31 are thoroughly remove. Next, the slag 32 remained on the scarfed surface is easily removed by injecting air from lateral side.
