Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve a shock absorbing property of a honeycomb catalyst holder by compressing cylindrical bodies of knitted heat-resisting metal wires into a flat cushion and disposing it around a honeycomb. CONSTITUTION:Cylindrical bodies of knitted stainless steel wires are made flat and corrugated with a corrugation roller. They are formed in the original cylindrical shape, lapped with respective corrugations agreeing with each other and compressed up to a required density. The wavy corrugations 4a, 4b on the internal and external faces of each cylindrical body curve at a certain angle with respect to an axial direction. A cushion body 4 for holding a honeycomb catalyst is completely formed in the above manner. The cusion body 4 is squeezed between a catalyst casing 3 and a honeycomb catalyst 2 for purifying an exhaust gas, preventing the catalyst from a damage caused by a vibration of a vehicle.
