Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve an efficiency of butt-welding operation at inside surface of fixed steel pipes and the quality of welded steel pipe as well, by mounting a welding unit on a carriage which has a specific construction capable of properly changing a distance between its front and rear wheel axles and a free caster wheel as its rear wheel.
CONSTITUTION: After a lever is set at its horizontal position, a front wheel 38 of the carriage is drawn out of a frame 37' together with a bearing body 41 and a sliding part 41' and then, a hydraulic jack 36 and manually operated jacks 43, 44, (45) equipped with at the flank of the carriage are released so that the carriage can move along inside surface of steel pipe to be welded. After the welding equipment is moved to the vicinity of a welding groove 2, manual jacks 43, 44, (45) are operated so that the front and rear wheels 38, 40 can be lifted up from the inside surface of steel pipe 1 and then, the oil hydraulic jack 36 is operated so as to fix the position of the welding equipment. After that, the bearing body 41 is pushed into a carriage body 37 so that the front wheel 38 can be retreated from the above of the groove 2 and an air cylinder 28 is operated so that the driving wheel as well as a spacer plate made of copper will be pushed onto the inside surface of steel pipe to start the welding operation. After the completion of the welding operation, the front 38 is drawn out of the carriage body 37 and manual jacks 43, 44, (45) as well as oil hydraulic jack 36 are all set loose and then, the welding equipment is transferred to another groove position.
