Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the quality of welded tube, by mechanically conducting a descaling operation on the surface of a metallic tape and providing slits at its both edges before it is fed to a forming machine so that a contaminated layer on an outer surface of the pipe can be removed and its weldability is stabilized as well.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic tape 1 fed out of a supplier device 2 is transferred, passed through a mechanical descaling device 9 and then a tape slitter 4 and then the mechanical descaling operation as well as slitting operation at its both edges are conducted in an on-line manner, continuously supplied to a forming machine 5. The mechanical descaling device 9 mechanically polishes the metallic surface by means of a tool such as wire brush 10 and removes the contaminated layer containing oxidized surface materials. As stated above, the welding operation can be stabilized and a welded tube of good quality without generating pin-holes is steadily manufactured.
