Abstract
PURPOSE: To maintain the activity of a Pd catalyst in the telomerization of an acyclic conjugated diolefin with an organic compound having an active hydrogen, stably for a long period, by combining the Pd catalyst with unidentate and bidentate phosphines.
CONSTITUTION: In the telomerization of an acyclic conjugated diolefin with a telogen comprising an organic compound containing an active hydrogen, in the presence of a Pd catalyst, a unidentate phosphine (e.g. triphenyl phosphine) and a bidentate phosphine [e.g. (C6H5)2PCH2P(C6H5)2] are added to the reaction system. The amounts of the unidentate and the bidentate phosphines are ≥6mol and 0.3W 3mol per 1 g-atom of Pd, respectively. Although the reaction product can be separated by the direct distillation of the reaction mixture, the product can also be separated by extracting with a hydrocarbon when sulfolane or methylsulfolane is used as the reaction solvent. Since the reaction mixture is not heated in the latter separation process, the catalyst can be used stably for a long period.
