Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a useful polymer composition in which an inorganic compound is firmly bound to an organic polymer at high conversions within a short time, by polymerizing a radical-polymerizable vinyl monomer in the presence of an organic acid in a polymerization system containing the inorganic compound.
CONSTITUTION: A radical-polymerizable vinyl monomer is polymerized in the presence of an organic acid in a polymerization system containing a dispersed inorganic compound. As the organic acid which can be applicable, acetic acid, monochloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid or trichloroacetic acid is particularly preferred because of high polymerization acitivity. As the vinyl monomer, methyl methacrylate is particularly preferred because of its specifically high polymerization activity and excellent bondability of the formed polymer to the inorganic compound. As the inorganic compounds, there can be mentioned calcium sulfite, calcium sulfate, silicon dioxide, titanium oxide, antimony trioxide, talc, clay and aluminum oxide.
