Abstract

At this time, the objective compound is separated from the oxidation or esterification reaction mixture and the resultant residue containing heavy metals or the aqueous solution which is obtained by bringing the heavy metal residue into contact with water, is brought into contact with an adsorbent such as activated alumina, then the product is recycled to the reaction as a heavy metal catalyst for oxidation. The reaction inhibitors are selectively removed with no adverse effect on the catalyst.
