Abstract

PURPOSE:To expand the measuring range with an inexpensive construction by adding or removing a built-in weight for calibration when a measured weight exceeds the upper limint to which it can be converted into electric signals with a balance mechanism. CONSTITUTION:An electronic balance 1 outputs an electromagnetic force balancing a load W on a plate 11 as digital signal from a weight detector 12 through a servo mechanism while a weight 3 for calibration adapted to be added or removed by a signal F is provided solidly on the plate 11. A signal is applied to a weight addition/ removal circuit 62 through a load decision device 61 to generate a signal F for adding or removing the weight 3, which is applied to a register 63. At the same time, the signal is fed to an arithmetic unit 64 with a signal of a tare subtraction register 65 and the results are outputted to a recorder 10. Thus, the range of conversion into electric signals can be expanded up to three fold simply by using one calibration weight for each range of an A/D converter in the weight detector 12 thereby enlarging the measuring range.
