Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure the discharge initiation of a high-frequency electric-discharge lamp, and make a power source device for the lamp smaller by installing a high voltage generator provided with a pair of discharging ends close to the surface of the glass tube of the lamp. CONSTITUTION:A high voltage generator 1 is connected to a pair of high voltage insulating wires 3a and 3b, as well as to discharging ends 4a and 4b that are attached to the ends of the wires 3a and 3b respectively. Pressing a switch 2 develops spark discharge across the discharging ends 4a and 4b. A high voltage field developed between the discharging ends 4a and 4b is passed through a glass tube 8, and ionizes the rare gas contained in the tube 8. High frequency electric power is supplied to a pair of electrodes contained in the glass tube 8 through connection pins 7a and 7b for lighting a high-frequency electric-discharge lamp. After the lamp is lit, the switch 2 is cut off.
