PURPOSE:To reduce the crosstalk and improve the dividing precision of plural magnetic heads, by dividing a video track recording band into two in the breadthwise direction and by recording or reproducing respective signal simultaneously while matching them to the time base. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic tape 1 is divided into two in the breadthwise direction to obtain a chrominance signal recording band I or a luminance signal recording band II. A Y head 3 and a C head 4 have an interval (b) corresponding to the width of the video track recording band I and II approximately in the axial direction of a rotary disc 2 and are arranged in positions at 180 deg. rotation angle. At a recording and reproducing time, the time base is matched to two recording bands I and II to process signals at the same timing by magnetic heads 3 and 4.
