Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a product of high efficiency and environment resistance by coating the outside circumference of a scintillator emitting light by means of radiations with a material of a refractive index of light smaller than that of the scintillator to form an optical waveguide and providing a photodetector at the end part thereof. CONSTITUTION:A scintillator 11 formed of solids such as NaI(Tl), Bi4Ge3O12 or the like or org. matter or liquid emits fluoroscence or phosphorescence by receiving radiations. The outside circumference thereof is coated with a coating material 12 (for example, quartz glass, polyethylene resin, nylon, etc.) of a refractive index of light smaller than that of the scintillator 11 to form an optical waveguide, and a photodetector 13 consisting of a photoelectric multiplier, a photodiode or CCD is provided at the end part thereof and the output thereof is fed to a data processing part. Thereby, the product which has high optical transmission efficiency and prevents the degradation of the scintillator material owing to environments is manufactured.
