Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of streaks by increasing the resistance of a weir member to flowing molten glass as the glass flows toward the downstream side and by uprighting a part of the member contacting with the glass finally.
CONSTITUTION: Molten glass 39 is fed to a molten glass pool 41 and formed into beltlike glass 57 by passing through the space between a weir member 46 and a molten metalic bath 45. The member 46 has an inclined part 52 contacting with the upper surface 54 of the pool 41 and a vertical part 53. The part 52 receives larger resistance as the glass 39 passing through the member 46 flows toward the downstream side, and affinity 55 for the member 46 with which the glass 39 contacts finally acts on elongating force 56 a at right angles. Accordingly, ununiformity in the affinity 55 exerts no influence on the force 56, and the occurrence of streaks is prevented.
