Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a low-toxic anti-tumor agent exhibiting no side effect even by the combined use with other medicines, by using bacterial cells of Lactobacillus casei YIT-9018 and cyclophosphamide as active components.
CONSTITUTION: The objective anti-tumor agent is prepared by using the cells of Lactobacillus casei YIT-9018 (FERM-P No.4751, hereinafer called as LC-9018) in comination with cyclophosphamide or carbocone as an anti-tumor alkylation agent. The LC-9018 has stronger anti-tumor activity than the other Lactobacillus. It is not only effective remarkably to nodular or ascitic sarcoma 180 of mouse to which a host-mediating antitumor agnet is also effective, by intracutaneous injection, oral administration and periotoneal infusion as well as intravenous injection, but also effective to the mouse leukemia, L-1210 and P-388, to which the commercially available drugs made from hemolytic strespococci are deemed to be ineffective. The toxicity of the LC-9018 is also low.
