Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce a loss of power in transmission, by vertically placing the rotary shaft of an engine and directly coupling the rotary shaft to an intermediate transmission shaft.
CONSTITUTION: Submerged bodies 2a, 2b and an upper ship body 1 are connected by struts 3a, 3b extending through a level of water, and engines 13a', 13b' are vertically arranged on the upper ship body 1 with their rotary shaft 29 in a vertical direction. Further inner end parts of horizontal propeller shafts 14a, 14b are engaged to lower end parts of vertical intermediate transmission shafts 15a, 15b through gear sets 17a, 17b, 17a', 17b'. Then lower end parts of the rotary shafts 29 are directly coupled to upper end parts of the intermediate transmission shafts 15a, 15b through shaft joints 31a, 31b. In this way, the rotary shafts 29, being directly coupled to the vertical intermediate transmission shaft 15a, 15b, can eliminate every one set of the right and left gear sets, thus a transmission loss of power can be widely reduced.
