Abstract

PURPOSE:To fix an optical coupler which couples a semiconductor laser and an optical fiber with high accuracy, by using the solder. CONSTITUTION:A laser adaptor is attached to a cap 3 which holds a laser 1 and a package 2. At the same time, a column lens 5 is attached to the tip of a fiber lens adaptor 13 attached to the edge part of a fiber 7 to gather the beams given from the laser 1 and to make them incident to the fiber 7. Both adaptors 4 and 13 are positioned with high accuracy and then fixed together by means of a coupling auxiliary ring 14. The ring 14 is made of kover with the silver plating applied on its surface, and both surfaces of the ring 14 are sandwiched by the solder 15. Thus the ring 14 functions to fix these two adaptors with the high frequency heating after the positioning.
