Abstract

PURPOSE: To clean the details of the interior of a device easily and sufficiently without disassembling the deivce, by a method wherein substances capable of reacting with each other to produce gaseous carbon dioxide are separately introduced into the device so that the interior of the device is cleaned by both a flowing action and a bubbling action of the substances.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of Na2CO3, NaHCO3, K2CO3, KHCO3, (NH4)2 CO3, NH4HCO3 or the like and an acid such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid or the like are used as the substances capable of reacting with each other to produce gaseous carbon dioxide. The substances are introduced into a filter press type electrodialyzer via separate introducing parts, and the details of the interior of the dialyzer and membrane surfaces are effectively cleaned by the bubbling action as well as the flowing actions of the salt and the acid itself. Use of a surfactant together with the salt and the acid is particularly effective for cleaning adhesive deposits and the membrane surfaces.
