Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the wavelength of a light over a wide range, by making a linear polarized wave light incident a polarized wave separating element via a light wavelength plate to extract two optical outputs and then applying a photoelectric conversion to these outputs and obtaining the logarithm ratio of the outputs by an arithmetic circuit. CONSTITUTION:A light beam 11 havig a linear polarized wave is made incident to a light wavelength plate 12 made of quartz for instance and having the light turning properties. Thus the polarized wave surface is turned from 14 to 15 by an angle theta. The angle theta varies according to the thickness of the plate 12 and the using wavelength. The beam radiated from the plate 12 is made incident to a polarized wave separating element 13 such as the calcite to be separated and receives the photoelectric conversion through photodetectors 5a and 5b in the form of components 15x and 15y of the orthogonal polarized wave. Thus outputs P1 and P2 are obtained. These outputs are supplied to a logarithm ratio arithmetic circuit to obtain a logarithm ratio of P2/P1dB. As a result, the wavelength of light can be obtained over a wide range and from the correlation between the wavelength and the logarithm ratio.
