Abstract

PURPOSE:To spot the position of an accident by using a time difference between an induced voltage based upon discharge due to imcomplete contact and a reflected wave at a terminal which are detected through a cable for accident-point detection provided successively along a lighting circuit. CONSTITUTION:When imperfect contact occurs at the connection point between a transformer 2-2 for lighting and a cable 3-3, discharge is caused there and at the same time, a voltage is induced at a cable for accident-point detection. A part of the voltage is applied in the opposite direction to a detector and, after reflected at the other terminal 9 of the cable 5, it is applied to the detector 6. The time difference T between a voltage applied directly to the detector 6 and the voltage reflected at the other terminal 9 and then applied and the propagation speed (v) of signal are used to know the distance (l) between the accident point and terminal 9 from l=(vXT)/2. This method makes it possible to know a faulty point like imperfect contact which can not be detected by a bridge method.
