Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare 2,4-diphenyl-4-methyl-1-pentene, selectively, in high yield, in one step, by heating α-cumyl alcohol under reduced pressure in the presence of acid clay or activated clay while distilling out the produced water from the reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: To obtain the title dimer composed mainly of high-quality 2,4- diphenyl-4-methyl-1-pentene, by heating α-cumyl alcohol at 50W120°C under a vacuum of 50W500mmHg in the presence of acid clay or activated clay, while distilling out the produced water from the reaction system. The amount of the acid clay or the activated clay is 1W0.01wt% of α-cumyl alcohol. When additional catalyst is added to the reaction system after the consumption of the α-cumyl alcohol, the α-methylstyrene remaining in the latter stage of the reaction can be converted to the dimer, and accordingly, the yield of the objective compond can be further increased.
USE: Agent for regulating polymerization degree.
