Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst of superior purifying performance and durability by adding cerium and calcium onto an inorg. porous carrier, firing these and forming composite oxide as a catalyst for purification of waste gases.
CONSTITUTION: As a catalyst for purification of waste gases contg. NOX, CO, HC, etc. from internal combustion engines of automobiles, etc., cerium and calcium are added onto an inorg. porous carrier of alumina or the like and are fired to form composite oxide of Ce1-XCaXO2-X (where 0.4≤x≤0.6), after which platinum group metal such as platinum, rhodium or the like is carried. This catalyst purifies the three components in waste gases simultaneously and has durability.
