Abstract

PURPOSE: To make adequate welding of single pass possible by controlling the rates of ejection of the shielding gases to be supplied to the nozzles provided before and behind in the welding advance direction of a welding torch in accoradance with welding positions at the time of subjecting the work having up or down narrow groove part to inert gas metal welding.
CONSTITUTION: For example, in the case when down welding is carried out, the surface of beads 43d tilt by an angle α of inclination to a horizontal line l, and the molten metal forming the beads 43d flows down. At this time, a tube inclination angle transmitter 45 mounted to a contact tube 5 feeds the angle γ of inclination of the tube to a control box 47 through an angle display device 46. The box 47 controls shielding gas flow control valves 44a, b in such a way that inert gases are ejected from a front nozzle 25 and a rear nozzle 26 at the rates corresponding to the angle γ of inclination of a tube 5 in accordance with experiments.
