Abstract

PURPOSE: An epoxy resin composition which is excellent in general physical properties, flexibility and adhesiveness and whose cured products, when left outdoors, exhibit good weather resistance and durability, prepared by adding a liquid styrenized phenol as a diluent.
CONSTITUTION: Titled composition consisting of (A) 100pts.wt. epoxy resin having, on average, more than one vicinal epoxy group per molecule, (B) 5W40pts.wt. liquid styrenized phenol and (C) 10W70pts.wt. active amino organic curing agent. Component B is prepared by copolymerizing, in solution, a phenol with a styrene at a mol ratio of 1:0.5W2.5, at 0W130°C in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts type catalyst.
EFFECT: The liquid styrenized phenol shows excellent compatibility with epoxy resins and has a high dilution effect.
