Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a molded article such as an edible film having excellent tear strength, by a method wherein the isoelectric point of an animal hide collagen is adjusted to a pH of 6.2 or below, a dispersion of the collagen is prepared, a specified amount of an ultrasonically solubilized collagen is blended with said dispersion, and the mixture is molded.
CONSTITUTION: An animal hide collagen is subjected to unhairing and purification by means of a lime treatment, etc., and then chopped. If necessary, the collagen is acetylated or crosslinked to adjust the isoelectric point to a pH of 6.2 or below. Then the collagen is swollen in an aq. hydrogen chloride soln. having a pH of 2W6, fibrillated and then dispersed in water to form a dispersion of collagen fiber. 0.02W 2pts.wt. Ultrasonically solubilized collagen (B) is mixed with one pt.wt. (one a fiber basis) above dispersion (A) of the collagen fiber, and the mixture is molded into a film, a yarn, etc. Component B is produced by irradiating a dispersion of the collagen fiber with ultrasonic wave to solubilize it in an aq. acid soln. The above crosslinking reaction is carried out by using a crosslinking agent such as an aldehyde, e.g. glutaraldehyde, or a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. ethylene glycol.
