Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a side wall loss, by providing straightening vanes near the tips of the moving vanes of a stage between the succeeding stage and the moving vanes of the preceding stage so that a tip leaking flow from the gap between a member at the tip of the moving vane and a member outside the former member is turned to the outgoing direction of a main flow.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of straightening vanes 8 are provided between the moving vanes 3 of a stage A of a multistage turbine and the stationary vanes of its succeeding stage so that the straightening vanes 8 are located at regular intervals in the circumferential direction of the turbine. Each straightening vane 8 is made of a plate of relatively small thickness. The height H of the part of the straightening vane 8 which extends from the position of the tip of the moving vane 3 to the inner edge 8a of the straightening vane 8 is set as H=0W0.7Bw where Bw denotes the length of the chord of the tip of the moving vane 3. The straightening vanes 8 are secured on a stationary outer wall 2c which is located in parallel with a rotor for the moving vanes 3 and extends from the outside diaphragm 2a of the preceding stage A toward the succeeding stage. According to this constitution, a tip leaking flow 11 proceeds out in the revolving direction S of the moving vanes 3 and is then turned to the outgoding direction of a main flow 9' by the straightening vanes 8.
