Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the vanishment of oil in the tappet body of tappet device of a horizontally-oppised internal combustion engine, by closing the oil injection hole of the tappet body by oil itself when the engine is stopped.
CONSTITUTION: The body 8 of an oil tappet 7 is pushed by the rotation of a cam 10a on a cam shaft 6, a ball check valve 21 is closed to cause high oil pressure in a pressure chamber 20. The tappet body 8 and a plunger 14 are integrally coupled to each other by the high oil pressure to move a push rod 11. When the tappet body 8 is reciprocated, oil is injected into an oil chamber 17 from an oil pump through a main passage 18 and an oil injection hole 16. A passage 26 is provided so that it extends down from the main passage 18 and then communicates with a cam shaft journal 6a. The journal 6a is connected to a crankshaft journal 1a through a passage 27.
