Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture needlelike BaTiO3 grains giving a grain orienting sintered body by mixing needlelike TiO2 hydrate grain powder or anatase type needlelike TiO2 grain powder obtd. by heat treating the hydrate powder with a Ba compound and by calcining the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: Potassium titanate fiber is treated with acid to remove the K component. The resulting needlelike TiO2.nH2O grain powder or anatase type TiO2 grain powder obtd. by heat-treating the hydrate powder and extended in one axial direction (a) is used as starting material. This starting material is mixed with BaO or a Ba compound convertible into BaO by heating, and the mixture is calcined to manufacture needlelike BaTiO3 grain powder extended remarkably in one crystal axial direction and useful extremely for manufacturing an orienting sintered BaTiO3 body and a sintered body of a solid soln. of BaTiO3 and a perovskite compound.
