Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable long-time continuous coating work by mixing resin with a curing agent immediately before coating the surface of a long-sized optical fiber with the resin in continuous coating.
CONSTITUTION: When an optical fiber 2 is passed through the through hole 16 of a resin container 15 to form a protective resin coating on the surface, the container 15 is made a triple container obtd. by concentrically arranging a container 152 holding the 1st base 18 of coating resin, a container 153 holding a curing agent 19 and a container 154 holding the 2nd base 20 of the coating resin in succession around a central part 151 passing the optical fiber, and a concentric supply nozzle 17 leading to the containers 152, 153, 154 is attached to the hole 16. The tops of the containers are pressurized with a pressurizing mechanism to mix the bases 18, 20 with the curing agent 19 in the nozzle 17, and the surface of the fiber 2 is coated with the mixture. The bases and the curing agent exist separately in the containers, so the resin is not cured, and a resin coating can be formed continuously on the surface of the long-sized optical fiber for a long time.
