Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve mass-productivity by using a thin-film optical waveguide for part of an optical system. CONSTITUTION:In a thin-film optical waveguide 8, the 1st and 2nd curature parts 8' and 8'' are formed and a slit 9 is provided. In this way, a well-known lens optical system is formed in one body by using the thin-film optical waveguide. Namely, the curvature parts 8' and 8'' correspond to a conventional lens, and the slit 9 to a split respectively. An optical waveguide 10 made of a thin SiO2 film and having a projected part is formed by using a normal reactive ion plating method and photoetching method. The part 10'' of the optical waveguide 10 opposing to a disk is formed by forming SiO2 on an Si substrate 11 to about 1mum and further by carrying out vapor deposition with a metallic mask covering the circumference of the part 20''. Namely, the turnaround effect of the metallic mask vapor deposition is utilized adequately to form the gently projected part. Consequently, an inexpensive pickup optical system with mass-productivity is obtained.
