Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the decrease in the open-circuit voltage of an alkaline manganese battery which is caused during the preservation, and increase the discharge utilization rate by using a positive mixture which is made of manganese dioxide and is added with graphite powder, which is used as a conductive material and is purified with an aqueous sulfuric acid solution. CONSTITUTION:A case 1 is packed with a positive mixture 2, which is prepared by mixing gamma-type manganese dioxide used as the major material with graphite powder used as a conductive material, before the mixture is compressed and molded; the former graphite powder is purified in an aqueous sulfuric acid solution of 5-10M concentration before use. After that, a separator 3, an electrolyte holding material 4, and a positive mixture 2 made of an amalgamated zinc powder added with a tackifier are plced over the mixture 2, thereby an alkaline manganese battery being constituted. Owing to the above constitution, the impurities contaminating the graphite can be effectively removed. Consequently, any generation of a local battery can be prevented, the decrease in the open-circuit voltage can be reduced, and the discharge voltage can be maintained high.
