Then diluted sulfuric acid with a high specific gravity, which is adjusted so that the diluted sulfuric acid attains to a prescribed specific gravity after the battery is charged, is poured and the battery is charged. In this mathod, the charge efficiency is improved by water or dilited sulfuric acid with a low specific gravity which is permeated previously into a plate group, the diluted sulfuric acid is mixed by gas which is generated near the completion of a charge, and the specific gravity of the diluted sulfuric acid increases to a prescribed value when charging is finished.
