Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of Fe fume dust and perform decarbonization with the high yield of steel making by charging a CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 type flux into the molten iron after prerefining in a converter at the stage of oxygen top blowing refining.
CONSTITUTION: The molten iron removed beforehand of Si, P, S, etc. by prerefining is decarbonized by oxygen top blowing in a converter. At the stage of this oxygen top blowing refining, a flux of CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 type is charged into the molten iron after the decarbonization treatment in the converter. Thereby, foamable slag is formed on the melt surface and the generation of Fe fumes is suppressed. After thr end of the blowing, the slag is removed and the molten steel is contained in a ladle. The flux removed of the slag is reusable for the next blowing. Said flux contains 10W40% CaO, 50W70% SiO2, and 5W25% Al2O3 and its m. p. is preferably ≤1,200°C.
