Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the wear, peeling, etc., of the ferromagnetic slanting-incident vapor-deposited layer of a magnetic recording medium, by setting the growth direction of rhombic crystal of the thickest layer of the vapor-deposited layer of the recording medium and the relative motion direction of a magnetic head at an acute angle.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic recording medium 1 consists of a base 2 of a nonmagnetic material and a recording layer 3 formed on the base 2 by using a ferromagnetic material. The recording layer 3 consists of two crystal columnar layers 3A and 3B having growth directions A of crystal columns of the ferromagnetic material slanting to the surface of the base 2. The crystal layer 3A is thinner than the 3B. A magnetic head 4 is moved relatively to the recording medium 1 in a direction having an acute angle α to the growth direction of crystal columns of the thicker crystal columnar layer 3B to record and reproduce information. In this method, the crystal columns are pressed by the magnetic head to slant further, thereby reducing the wear, peeling, etc., of the vapor- deposited layer.
