Abstract

PURPOSE: To aim at miniaturizing a lockup clutch by providing, in the axial center portin of an input shaft, an oil passage communicating with a directly coupling type clutch controlling chamber, a drain passage and a check valve actuated by a control link coaxial with the input shaft.

CONSTITUTION: If a solenoid 12a of a directional control valve 12 is actuated to communicate a negative pressure chamber 82 in an actuator 80 with a negative pressure chamber 82 in an actuator 80 with a negative pressure section in an intake duct 13 when the speed ratio of a pump 1 to a turbine 2 becomes below a predetermine a value, a diaphragm 81 is deflected left. Then, a control link 65 is also moved left by means of an actuating member 83 so that a check valve 60 is opened for allowing an oil passage 61 to open to a drain passage 62. Therefore, hydraulic oil in a control chamber S flows into a mission casing 8 from the oil pasage 61 through the drain passage 62 so that pressure in the control chamber S is decreased. Piston 42 is moved outwaed due to the decrease in pressure, and a pressure plate 43 is shifted toward a front cover 1b, so that a clutch disc 41 is clamped, thereby the turbine 2 is directly coupled to the pump 1.
