Abstract

PURPOSE: An anthracene high-polymeric compound that is made by substituting the diol component in the recurring units of the high-polymeric compound with the residue of 9,10-anthracene diol, thus showing high film-forming property and having high flexibility, strength and heat resistance.
CONSTITUTION: For example, when polyester is produced, a tetrahydrofuran solution of anthracene-9,10 diol, which is obtained by reducing anthraquinone or its derivative with sodium borohydride, is combined with a dicarboxylic dihalide such as isophthaloyl chloride at a ratio of 1W10 to 1 of the total diols and they are heated to produce a polyester in which a part, or all of X in the high polymeric compound containing the objective recurring units, -(X-X)-, (X is residue of 2W20C alkylene diol; Y is residue of 4W20C dicarboxylic acid) is substituted with the residue of 9,10-anthracenediol, resulting in 1W85wt% 9,10-anthracenylene group.
