Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce a reflection loss of light, by constituting an optical fiber of an organic high polymer, and also constituting a core component of the sheath- core structure of polystylene which has polymerized a stylene monomer filtered and refined by use of a porous film. CONSTITUTION:A refining device is made of Pyrex glass, a liquid for refining use is put in a vessel 1 and is heated. Care is taken of a connecting part so that dust is not mixed in, and a capillary 2 is used in case of evacuated distillation. It is connected to a filter part 5 through a rectification tower 4, and this filter part 5 is heated by a tape heater 6 so that gas is not condensed. The gas is filtered by the filter 5, and after that, is condensed by a cooling part 7, is stored in a liquid reservoir 8, and an optical fiber is obtained by using as a core a fiber obtained by spinning polystylene which has polymerized a stylene monomer filtered and refined in said way, by a well-known method, and also using, for instance, a methyl methacrylate polymer as its sheath.
