Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the quantity of sulfur in the material to be measured under the atmosphere or oxidizable atmosphere accurately in a short time, by forming a battery by connecting a standard electrode coexsisting with a prescribed sulfide with the material to be measured containing sulfur by a solid electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A standard solution 3, in which another sulfide easy to oxidize more than a metal and metallic sulfide as an oxygen getter is mixed with a mixture of the metal having constant sulfur potential and metallic sulfide, and a solid electrolyte 2 contacting with the material to be measured which contains sulfur, are closely stuck and are inserted into a heat-resisting pipe 4. Then, a battery for electromotive force measurement consisting of a lead wire 5 contacting with the electrode 3 and the electrolyte 2 and a lead wire 6 contacting with the material to be measured, is held by a heat-resisting material 11 and a thermocouple for temperature measurement consisting of a Pt group thermocouple 7 is held in a silica tube 8 by heat-resisting material 14 and then, the material 11 and 14 are fixed to a main body 1. As a result of it, invasion of oxygen into the electrode 3 can be excluded surely.
