Abstract

PURPOSE: To diagnose a display device which converts display data into a display pattern by a character generator and then extracts display dots through a parallel-serial converter, by providing the display device with a means of comparing the output of the parallel-serial converter with a correct-answer dot pattern.
CONSTITUTION: Screen refreshment data from a refreshment memory 11 is converted into display dot pattern data, which is latched by a P/S converter. When a raster address switching signal RADRSW is supplied from a raster address generator 13 to a CPU through a line 21, correct-answer data with a corresponding dot pattern is latched by a latch circuit 16 through a line 22 and a comparator 17 compares the output of the converter 15 with that of the latch circuit 16. When the both are coincident with each other, a refreshment memory address REFADR is updated. When otherwise detected, an error signal ERROR is transferred to the CPU to stop refreshing operation. The CPU analyses data to store another necessary display character code in the refreshment memory 11, and then repeats the comparison, performing the diagnosis.
