Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the turning speed and phase of a rotary drum, by utilizing streak grooves for forming an air film between the drum and a magnetic tape arranged around the external circumferential surface of the rotary drum. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of a rotary drum 3 where a magnetic tape is not wound, a light emitting element 20 and a photodetecting element 21 are arranged. Between streak grooves formed at an interval (l) while slanting at a prescribed angle theta from a magnetic head, one more steak groove (d) is worked and used for phase detection. A signal from the photodetecting element 21 is passed through a differentiating circuit 22 and a rectifying circuit 23 to detect a detection signal rising. The obtained detection signal is passed through a monostable multivibrator 24 with 3/4 duty to eliminate a phase detection signal, obtaining a speed detection signal. For the phase detection, the signal passed through the rectifying circuit 22 is passed through a delay circuit 25 and then ANDed with the output signal of the 3/4 monostable multivibrator 24 to extract only the part where a phase signal is present.
