One method of obtaining a short length assembly is that the piston has a relatively small diameter central portion around which annular chambers are defined for coupling to the inlet and outlet portions. The inner bore and the booster piston have a stepped profile. Advantageously, the diameter is such that the high pressure fluid in the annular chamber connected to the inlet acts to bias the piston rearwardly. However, this means that
Boosters with inner holes at the rear and front ends of the annular chamber
This means that the sealing diameter between the pistons is larger than the sealing diameter between the inner bore in the center and the booster piston. This creates a problem in the assembly in that extra elements must be inserted into the bore to obtain a relatively small diameter for the central seal.

The bore and the booster piston have a stepped profile, the diameter of the bore and the booster piston being such that the diameter of the sealing action of the booster piston at the rear end of the annular chamber is smaller than that at the front end of the annular chamber. At the front end of the annular chamber, a radial gap is formed between the booster piston and the bore, which is larger than the sealing diameter of the booster piston, and the inlet surrounds the booster piston. 5 configured and sealed to provide an annular chamber coupled to the booster piston, the front seal between the bore and the booster piston at the forward end of the annular chamber being radially deformable and connecting the bore and the booster piston. - It is attached to the wall surface of the inner hole so as to allow a radial gap between the pistons.

An annular chamber 17, which is connected to the booster piston 5, is configured to surround the booster piston 5. This high-pressure chamber 17 is located between a rear seal 16 located on the booster piston 5 and a front seal 18 provided on the wall of the bore 2 at the point where the booster piston 5 is spaced from the bore 2. defined. A further annular chamber 19 surrounds the booster piston 5 in front of the high pressure chamber 17. This chamber 19 is connected to the outlet section 4 and is defined between the aforementioned front seal 18 and a further front seal 20 on the booster piston 5. The sealing diameter of the rear seal 16 is larger than that of the front (9) seal 18 so that the high pressure fluid in the high pressure chamber 17 acts to bias the booster piston 5 rearwardly. Seal 15.
16 and 18 are all polytetrafluoroethylene (P, T, F, E,
) The sealing ring 21 is made of These seals, which have a small hysteresis characteristic and are therefore particularly suitable for use in high pressure systems, also have a limited radial radius so that they can be subjected to a certain amount of radial strain without affecting their sealing properties. It has a certain amount of elasticity. However, these seals also have relatively large radial gap tolerances without being extruded under high pressure.

Therefore, it can be seen that assembly of the booster becomes easy. Once these parts are assembled inside the booster piston 5 and the rear seals 15 and 18 are in place, the booster piston 5 is inserted through the front end of the bore 2 and the front seal 18 is elastically It deforms to pass through the relatively large sealing diameter of the rear seal 16 and then returns to its sealing condition against the booster piston 5. As mentioned above, the front seal 18 has a loaded P as its sealing surface,
Since the ring is made of T, F, E, there is no extrusion and a relatively large diametrical gap is created between the booster piston 5 and the bore 2, in this example 0.5 mm. Such a seal can indeed tolerate a diametric gap of 0.8 mm, but the high pressure chamber 17
is selected such that the reservoir chamber 19 can deliver working fluid to the passageway 24 from a high pressure working fluid source.

This input member 7 moves forward and advances the spool 26 against the force of the spring 270. Movement of the spool 26 is isolated from the inclined passage 23 from the chamber 31 and thus from the booster chamber 14. Further movement of the spool 26 is
Port 28 is opened to establish communication between passages 24 and 25 through which high pressure working fluid flows into booster chamber 14 . At the same time, this high-pressure working fluid is introduced into chamber 31 via passage 29 and blind hole 30 and acts on auxiliary piston 32 .

A port 53 in spool portion 49 is connected to axial bore 48 by a diametric passageway 54 . This port 53 controls communication between the reservoir chamber 19 and a passage 55 in the booster piston 5 leading to the booster chamber 14 .

When a load is applied to the pedal, the input member 7 advances and moves the spool (!8) 40 into contact with the block 56 against the force of the spring 410. First, boat 53 has booster room 1

Booster piston 5 advances within bore 2 and applies a force to the master cylinder, which force is transmitted via block 56 and output rod 36.
