More specifically, the present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device having an enclosure around a so-called upper and lower electrode connection portion that connects common electrode portions of a pair of upper and lower substrates. Generally, organic cells (those whose alignment treatment is done by organic rubbing,
Cells in which an organic adhesive is used in the sealing layer that bonds the substrates together, or in which both of the above are applied, are generally called organic cells. Therefore, the organic cell in the following text has this meaning. ), the sealing layer is made of an organic adhesive and is also used as a sealing material for the injection hole. Conductive organic adhesives such as epoxy are also used in some parts. Here, the conductive organic adhesive of the upper and lower electrode connection parts is
The purpose is to conduct between the common electrodes of two substrates, so
It is an organic adhesive containing a conductive substance such as silver powder, and its placement position is either outside the sealing layer B as shown in Figure 1, or on the outside of the sealing layer B as shown in Figure 2. There are cases where it is inside B. These conventional examples have two major drawbacks. -9 is that when the upper and lower electrode connecting portions 6 are disposed outside as shown in Fig. 1, the adhesive force of the connecting portions 6 decreases due to deterioration of the organic adhesive due to moisture from the outside, resulting in poor conduction. On the other hand, when the connecting portion 6 is disposed inside as shown in FIG. 2, the liquid crystal material deteriorates due to a chemical reaction between the liquid crystal material and the organic adhesive of the connecting portion 6. Another drawback is that the organic adhesive used for the sealing layer 6 and the connection part 6 have similar main components and are manufactured using a manufacturing method that requires a curing process at the same time. There is a risk that the organic adhesive No. 6 will dissolve with the organic adhesive of the sealing layer B.

Since it lacks holding power, conduction becomes unstable, resulting in a defective product as an organic cell. The purpose of the present invention is to eliminate these conventional drawbacks, and in particular to provide a connecting portion 6 which has no risk of chemical reaction with the liquid crystal material, is moisture resistant, has sufficient adhesive strength, and has a uniform bond between the upper and lower substrates. An object of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device that can obtain a gap of . Hereinafter, the present invention will be explained in detail with reference to the drawings. FIG. 3 is a process diagram showing an embodiment of the method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device of the present invention. First, Figure 3 (
As shown in A), among a pair of transparent substrates having electrodes that have been oriented by rubbing etc., one of the substrates 1 is coated with an ultraviolet curable adhesive (hereinafter referred to as UV adhesive) and a dispenser is used. A circular box 7 is provided by screen printing. At this time, the height or thickness of the UV adhesive box 7 is the same as that of the two substrates 1.2 when it becomes an organic cell.
The gap between them is controlled to be 7 to 15 μm. This method of control is achieved by selecting the mesh of the screen and the height of the mesh of the screen and the screen printed box 7.
The relationship is as shown in Figure 6, and is not affected by the viscosity of the UV adhesive. In this state, the UV adhesive box 7 formed on one of the substrates 1 is irradiated with ultraviolet rays 8 (hereinafter referred to as UV irradiation) as shown in FIG. 3(B) to cure it. let

As shown in FIG. However, since the UV adhesive box 7 has already been cured by UV irradiation, the box 7 will not adhere or adhere to the screen. In addition, the connection part 6 used here
The main component of the conductive organic adhesive for forming the sealing layer 6 is an epoxy adhesive of the same type as the organic adhesive used for the sealing layer 6. Since the role of the connection part 6 is to provide electrical continuity between the common electrodes of the two substrates 1.2, this epoxy adhesive contains about 73 to 75% by weight of a conductive substance such as silver powder. . The connection part 6 is generally called a silver point because it contains a large amount of silver powder.
What is shown in Figure (D) is a sealing layer 3 formed on the other substrate 2 by screen printing so as to form an injection hole 4 therein. The organic adhesive used for this sealing layer B is an epoxy two-component adhesive. Figure 3 (E
) shows a top view in which one substrate 1 on which the box 7 and the connecting part 6 are formed and the other substrate 2 on which the sealing layer 6 is formed are superimposed, and FIG. It shows a cross-sectional view. As shown in FIG. 3(E), in one embodiment of the present invention, a connecting portion 6 is provided inside the sealing layer 6 (at the tray 1 where the liquid crystal material is located). In addition, in Figure 3 (F), the UV adhesive box 7 is the gap thickness of the organic cell, while the height of the connection part 6 and sealing layer 6 is printed more effectively. There is. Thereafter, the two substrates 1.2 are pressurized and fired. At this time,
The UV adhesive box 7 is the same as the gap thickness of the organic cell, and is already cured, so
By crushing the connecting portion 6 and the sealing layer 6 by applying pressure, the gap between the two substrates 1.2 is reduced to U.
The height is regulated to be equal to the height of the V-adhesive box 7. That is, the box 7 also serves as a spacer for gap adjustment. After heating and firing, a liquid crystal substance 10 is injected into an organic cell, and the pores are sealed with a sealant 5 to form a liquid crystal display device. A plan view is shown in FIG. 4, and a cross-sectional view is shown in FIG. 5. It was shown to. As shown in FIG. 4, the fired sealing layer 6 is generally not linear but meandering, and often comes into contact with the enclosure 7. Furthermore, the same applies to the connection part 6, and there was a gap between the connection part 6 and the box 7 in the state shown in FIG. 3(E), but the state shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 In this case, there is almost no gap. Conventionally, there was no enclosure 7, so the sealing layer 6 and the connection part 6 came into direct contact,
Since the main components of both organic adhesives are of the same type and melt at the same time, in such a case, the outside of the organic adhesive of the connection part 6 will melt into the tooling layer 6, causing the connection part to melt. 6, silver powder that does not have the required amount of organic adhesive is left behind, resulting in a loss of adhesive strength, and as a result, the common electrode portions of the two substrates 1.2 cannot be bonded. This caused the problem of poor continuity. On the other hand, according to the present invention, as shown in FIG. 4, the sealing layer 6 and the enclosure 7 and the connecting portion 6' and the enclosure 7 are in contact with each other.
Since the box 7 is cured in advance and then the two substrates 1.2 are stacked and fired under pressure, the adhesive may melt into each other between the sealing layer 6 and the box 7, and between the connection part 6 and the box 7. Never. Therefore, no contact occurs between the sealing layer 6 and the connecting portion 6, and the adhesive never melts together. Furthermore, when the connecting portion 6 is located inside the sealing layer 6 as in this embodiment, the connecting portion 6 would extend to the inside of the partition a9 of the liquid crystal display device, which would lead to poor appearance. However, in the present invention, since there is a box 7, even if the connection part 6 expands, it will not protrude from here, and it is formed neatly outside the parting line 9 and inside the box 7, as shown in FIG. It is in a state of being. This means that the connecting part 6 does not come into direct contact with the liquid crystal material 10, and therefore the risk of a chemical reaction between the contact part 6 and the liquid crystal material 10 is eliminated. FIG. 7 shows another embodiment in which the connecting portion 6 is connected to the sealing layer 6.
It is formed on the outside of the In this embodiment as well, since there is a pre-hardened enclosure 7 between the sealing layer 6 and the connection part 6, the sealing layer 6 and the connection part 6 are
The organic adhesives do not melt together, and therefore the adhesive strength of the connecting portion 6 does not weaken, which is the same effect as in the previous embodiment. Moreover, since the enclosure 7 is formed around the connection part 6, deterioration of the connection part 6 due to moisture from the outside after the liquid crystal display device is used can be prevented.

In addition, the sealing layer 3 and the connection part 6 may be formed with UV adhesive, or the box 7 may be formed with an epoxy-based organic adhesive. It may also be formed by That is, the adhesive forming the enclosure 7, the connecting portion 6, and the sealing layer 6 is UV-treated.

UV, epoxy system-UV-UV, epoxy system-UV-epoxy system, epoxy system-epoxy system-〇V1 epoxy system-epoxy system-epoxy system, etc. may be used. However, the forming method, that is, the manufacturing method, is such that the box 7, which is a feature of the present invention, is first formed equal to the gap of the organic cell and cured, and then the connecting portion 6 and the sealing layer 6 are formed. It is necessary to go through the steps of stacking two substrates, pressing them, and firing them. In yet another embodiment of the present invention, as shown in FIG. 8, there is an example in which a plurality of organic cells are formed simultaneously. In this example, a plurality of UV adhesive boxes 7 are printed on one substrate 1 by screen printing or the like, as shown in FIG. 9, in the same manner as in the previous example. The thickness of the box 7 is the same as the gap of the organic cell, and in this state UV irradiation is applied to harden the box 7. Thereafter, a connecting portion 6 is formed in this enclosure 7 by screen printing or the like, and a sealing layer 6 is formed on the other substrate 2. When the two substrates 1.2 are superimposed, the thickness of the enclosure 7 just serves as a spacer to keep the gear knob of the organic cell constant. In the case of the method for manufacturing an organic cell shown in FIG. 3, the position of the box 7 is off to one side, so it is not necessarily sufficient as a spacer. In the method of simultaneously forming organic cells, the ninth
As shown in the figure, the boxes 7 are distributed almost evenly on one substrate 1, so that when superimposed on the other substrate 2, they serve perfectly as spacers. As a result, unlike the conventional method of mixing a spacer material into the sealing layer 3 to regulate the organic cell gap, there is no need to mix a special spacer material into the sealing layer 3, making the work easier. This contributes to the simplification of the process and the saving of materials. Of course, as described above, the enclosure 7 prevents the sealing layer 3 and the connecting portion 6 from coming into contact with each other or from melting. Although other shapes of the box 7 are shown in FIGS. 10 to 13, it may be square as shown in FIG. 10, or partially cut out as shown in FIGS. 11, 12, and 13. Notch part 1
Although not shown in the figure, it may be triangular or any other shape, and the shape can be freely selected depending on the shape of the organic cell and its placement position.
