In an apparatus for reproducing a green signal recorded on a disk-shaped rotating recording medium by a pickup reproducing element that is transferred in the radial direction of the rotating recording medium by a transport mechanism, the pickup reproducing element is detected to be in a standby position. a counter that is set by a signal generated by the pick-up reproducing element and counts pulses generated during the transfer of the pick-up reproducing element; and detecting the recording start position of the entire recording program on the rotary recording medium from the reproduction signal of the pick-up reproducing element.
