Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a thermal head at a fixed temperature and prevent the so- called sticking phenomenon from occurring, by a method wherein a heater provided in surface contact with the face side or back side of a thermal head is turned ON and OFF as required. CONSTITUTION:The heater 5 for heating the thermal head 1 is sheet-like in shape, is provided with a heating pattern 6, and is adhered to a fitting part 3 located on the back side of the thermal head 1. When the thermal head 1 is heated to a preset temperature by the heater 5, the condition is detected by a temperature-detecting means, e.g., a thermistor, and impressing of a voltage on the heater 5 is restricted by OFF control of the thermistor. When the surface temperature of the head 1 is lowered below a preset temperature, a voltage is impressed on the heater 5 by ON control of the thermistor. Accordingly, the surface temperature of the head 1 is maintained to be constant irrespectively of the ambient temperature. The means for heating the head 1 may be located on the face side of the head.

Printing control in conventional thermal recording devices has been performed using a thermistor. In other words, in order to obtain a constant print density regardless of the rise or fall of the temperature of the thermal head, the rise or fall of the temperature of the thermal head is detected by the resistance change of a thermistor as shown by the resistance change curve R1, Accordingly, the voltage applied to the r 9 ) thermal head was controlled as shown in the change curve Hr1 to obtain a preset target optimum density. That is, if there is a temperature rise in the thermal head, it is detected by a decrease in the resistance of the thermistor, and the voltage applied to the thermal head is thereby controlled to be lowered to obtain a constant print density.

However, the resistance change curve R1 of the thermistor is
Since it is not possible to match the change curve r1 of color density due to applied voltage, when using this type of device at a low temperature within the operating environment temperature and when using it at a high temperature, it is found that the same printing performance can be obtained. was difficult. In addition, printing density tests during equipment adjustment or inspections are affected by the environmental temperature at the time, and there are problems such as requiring a lot of time to confirm printing performance in temperature characteristics tests. Ta. Furthermore, as can be understood from Figure 1, the temperature state of the thermal head, in other words, the applied voltage changes accordingly when it is in a low temperature state and when it is in a high temperature state, which poses a problem in terms of the lifespan of the thermal head. There is.

Further, the printing section is composed of the thermal head and the platen roller, and there is contact between them for the length of the thermal head or the platen roller, and the thermal paper passes between them to print. The heat generated by the thermal head due to voltage application dissolves and solidifies the fusible components of the thermal paper to produce color. For this reason, when the fusible components melted by heating solidify, the platen roller Because it is in close contact with the thermal head,
If the thermal head is at a low temperature, the fusible component will rapidly solidify and the so-called sticking phenomenon may occur, in which the solidified portion adheres to the thermal head.

When the temperature of the thermal head 1 rises to a preset temperature level, the state is detected by a temperature detection means (not shown), such as a thermistor, and when the temperature rises above the preset temperature, the heater 5 is turned off by the thermistor.
Voltage application to is restricted. On the other hand, thermal head 10
When the surface temperature falls below a preset temperature, voltage is applied to the heater 5 by turning on the thermistor. By controlling the on/off of the thermistor as described above, the surface temperature of the thermal head 1 can be kept constant regardless of the external temperature.

In the above embodiments, the heater is in the form of a sheet, but it is clear that a block-type heater may also be used.Furthermore, the means for heating the thermal head is not the back surface of the thermal head, but the paper feed (6 ) It is clear from the above description that it may be arranged on the surface of a thermal head configured on a platen roller having a paper pressing function.

(Effects of the Invention) As described above in detail, according to the present invention, means for warming the thermal head is disposed on the front or back surface of the thermal head, and the heating means is turned on at a constant temperature predetermined by a thermistor or the like. Since the configuration is such that the thermal head is kept at a constant temperature by being turned off, the same printing performance can always be obtained regardless of the external environmental temperature, and the voltage applied to the thermal head in order to obtain the target appropriate density is controlled by the above-mentioned means. Since there is an increase in the thermal head surface temperature due to the thermal head surface temperature, it is possible to use a low setting. Moreover, since the thermal head surface temperature is constant, there is no need to apply a high voltage, etc.
This is advantageous in terms of the lifespan of the thermal head.

(Refer to the figure) As a means of heating by determining the threshold value for on/off operation according to the environmental temperature used, in the example, the temperature of the heater can be freely selected, so a highly accurate thermistor is used. There is no need for this, and it can be expected that sticking, which has become a problem with the use of recent thermal paper with good printing quality, will be less likely to occur because the temperature of the entire thermal head is rising.
