Abstract

A method and apparatus is provided for attaching and detaching two panels (10A & 10B), each of which has an opening defined by mating parts of a continuous flexible fastener strip. The panels may be part of protective enclosures, one of which can be portable (a garment or a mobile unit), and which afford a protective environment to persons or things therewithin. A first opening is formed in one panel and a second opening in the other panel, the openings being co-extensive when in abutting position. Primary fasteners, such as zippers (12A & 12B), are attached to each of the openings for repeated opening and closing thereof. Secondary covering fasteners, including flaps (14A & 14B) with fabric hook-latch material, located on the exterior of the panels surround and cover the primary fasteners. The fasteners interengage to fasten the panels together with the openings aligned, thus forming a passage between the interiors of said enclosures.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to the rapid and safe transfer of encapsulated individuals and/or substances into and out of a protective structure. The packaging may consist, for example, of a suitable protective garment or packaging Yanagawa. The protective structure may consist, for example, of a military mass protection system designed to protect troops from chemical warfare attacks, buildings, aircraft, spacecraft or even protective clothing of persons. Historically, anyone interested in collective protection structures knows that moving people and objects into and out of shelters is an important issue.

To the extent that humans are protected against chemically contaminated environments, such as those resulting from chemical warfare attacks, protection of the individual takes precedence. Protective clothing with face masks, breathing systems, etc. for people is very effective. However, the clothing and breathing system, combined with the filter's limited capacity, create psychological and thermal stresses that severely limit and limit the useful wear life. Long-term collective protection shelters are increasingly being emphasized to control and limit the wear cycles on personal protective clothing in contaminated environments.

Current accepted methods to theoretically prevent contaminants from entering such mass shelters require that all entry and exit of persons occur through air. The air volume concept requires a minimum of two entrances and one intermediate chamber large enough to decontaminate, undress and store contaminated clothing.

The present invention aims at a new method that is a quick access system in one step. This system uses a novel air volume concept to replace the prior art air germs currently used in mass protection evacuation shelters, and uses suitably tailored protective clothing for people or packages wrapped in suitably tailored packaging. This completes the work of moving people to the evacuation center and allows many people or packages to enter at the same time, while greatly reducing the time required for this work. This is possible because several pneumatic procedure steps can be omitted or simplified, including the decontamination and special storage of outer clothing, the purge duration of pneumatic compartments, and the duration of the purge of the human body or packaging. Removal of contaminants from objects etc. The simplified method of the present invention in one aspect simplifies the shelter entry procedure from six dimensions to two dimensions because the entry procedure only utilizes the interface between the mating exterior surfaces of the protective garment and the shelter. It is from.

The purpose of the invention is to "rip" people from their protective clothing or packages from their packaging, leaving the protective clothing or packaging outside and moving the large or packaged items quickly and safely into a mass shelter. . This transfer involves providing mating openings in the clothing and the entrance wall of the shelter that would normally be closed. When the openings are brought together and each opened, they are free to move from one uncontaminated space to another. In the following description, the terms ``personal,''``person,'' and ``clothing'' are intended to also include ``package'' and ``wrapping.''

The present invention uses a mating primary fastener, such as a zipper, and, if necessary, a flap, in combination with an additional or secondary fastener, such as a woven hook-hook, such as a mold;
Secondary fasteners are positioned on the exterior of the entrance wall of the shelter and the person's protective exterior covering and cover the primary fasteners as needed. These features allow individuals to secure their outer clothing to the exterior of the entrance to the shelter and form a seal for the passageway formed between the interior portion of the clothing and the compartments of the mass protection shelter, thereby providing protection from the external environment. Prevent contaminated material from entering the shelter. Once installed, the garment and compartment now positioned within a sealed, uncontaminated internal area surrounded by the attached flaps can be removed sequentially by a person from within the garment or from within the shelter. Can be opened.

After entering the collective protection shelter, both internal or primary zipper fasteners can be, but need not be, closed, while the clothing remains on the outside of the collective protection structure. After being protected in the shelter and performing activities (eating, exercising, sleeping, etc.), the individual reopens both inner zippers and re-enters the garment, closing the zippers and removing the flaps and secondary zippers. and leave the mass evacuation center while safely continuing the mission in the contaminated environment outside. Thus, the present invention effectively creates a parallel rather than a sequential system of entry and exit without limiting the number of people entering and exiting the shelter at one time.

Another application of the invention is shown in FIG. 9 in which a nutritional product, such as a beverage, is placed in a protective pouch 40 having a small flap-covered and sealed opening comparable to the small opening 26 in a garment. Supplied fully wrapped. The wearer of this garment picks up the pouch, attaches the flap, opens the zipper, reaches into the pouch, removes the contents, and then, after drinking or eating, repeats the same procedure in reverse to dispose of the resulting waste. An opening 24 covered by a flap in the garment can likewise be used for draining human waste. FIG. 9 also shows an optional sleeve expansion chuck 27 which, when opened, allows a suitable amount of clothing material to be placed under the arm, allowing the arm to be removed from the sleeve and the chucks 22 and 26 to be operated from inside the garment. However, when closed, it forms a tight-fitting garment suitable for a person to carry out activities without restrictions.

FIG. 15 shows in perspective view the integral components described as six parts in FIG. 14. Groove 121.122,
123 and 124 are clearly shown in FIG. 15 showing the passage of the tape member through the slide member. In FIG. 16, there are two tape members (111, 112 and 113, 114) and an interlocking part 115 that fits therein.
A plurality of pairs of fasteners are inserted into the slide member of the embodiment described in connection with FIGS. 14 and 15. The tape members are connected to each other by interlocking parts, which in the illustrated example are chuck teeth, but it will be appreciated that they may be of various other types. These tape members are connected to the tape members 111 and 112 before entering the slide member 120.
It is assembled into a pair of 6 and 114. As the slide member moves upwardly relative to the tape pair as indicated by the arrows, the tape pairs 111, 112 and 113, 114 are separated from each other because of the divergent grooves. Halfway through the slide member, the tape members are no longer connected and are twisted or turned into four separate members, yet all of the tape members are captured and protected from the outside environment. Ru. Twisting each tape member 11 by 90° will form a new pair.
1 and 113 are a pair of tape members 112 and 114. Finally, as the grooves merge to form a continuous pair, interlocking parts 115 of the tape members engage to connect the pairs of tapes as just described.

Such a construction allows the fastener to be used in other practical applications where two panels may optionally remain abutted against each other, yet at least one of the panels may be independently movable. - When the ξ-flank is pulled apart, the secondary slide 40 is used as a regular chuck slide, so that the fastener tape controlled by this slide can be opened and closed in a conventional manner. Similarly, primary slide 145 can also be used as a conventional slide to open and close the fasteners of the panel on which it rests (FIGS. 18 and 19). Grooves 123' and 124' in the primary and secondary slides are grooves 12111
