Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the titled ink with excellent quick-drying property after printing, by adding a volatile solvent and basic matter in a particular ratio to a water-soluble ink consisting mainly of a water-soluble dye, polyol, and water. CONSTITUTION:1-9wt% water-soluble dye, 45wt% or lower polyol (e.g., ethylene glycol), and 3-10wt% volatile matter (e.g., ethanol) are dissolved in water, and a basic material (e.g., KOH) is added to said soln. to adjust the pH to 12.0-13.5.

The basic properties required for an inkjet recording ink include 1) no evaporation and drying within the head nozzle, 2) short apparent drying time on the recording medium, and 3) little bleeding on the recording medium. Regarding the properties of drying, evaporation and drying are prevented by adding a water-absorbing poly-911 alcohol-based humectant. Also, 2), 3)
Its properties have been improved by adding volatile solvents and surfactants, and in particular, by adding surfactants to the water and polyhydric alcohol yarn system, extremely quick drying properties have been achieved. It has been reported that there is an improvement. (Unexamined Japanese Patent Publication No. 55-65269, special f?) Jl
lt' (Refer to Publication No. 56-95961) However, it has been pointed out that printing quality deteriorates due to complicated penetration in the direction of paper fibers. It has been reported that an ink that dries relatively quickly on recording paper while maintaining the circularity of printed dots by adding a basic substance, specifically an alkali metal hydroxide to the agent, has been reported. (Unexamined Japanese Patent Publication No. 56-5
(Japanese Patent Publication No. 7862) However, it is still difficult to say that the ink is satisfactory in terms of quick drying properties.

Aiming to further improve quick-drying properties, these researchers conducted in-depth research and found that an alkali metal hydroxide was added to a 1M moistening agent based on water and polyhydric alcohol at a pH value in the range of 12.0 to 13.5. By adding a volatile solvent in the range of 3wt% to 10wt%, the quick drying speed is more than doubled while maintaining the same print quality compared to ink without volatile solvents. I discovered that.

Also, if the amount added exceeds jQwt%, the quick drying property will be satisfied, but the penetration in the direction of the fibers on the recording paper will be significant and the circularity of the printed dots will be poor.
If the range is less than , satisfactory quick-drying performance cannot be achieved.

From the above, ink containing water or a polyhydric alcohol-based wetting agent with an alkali metal hydroxide added with a pH value in the range of 12.0 to 155, and a volatile solvent added in an amount of 5 wt% to 10 wt% has high print quality. It is possible to improve quick drying while retaining moisture.

The wetting agent is added to prevent clogging in the nozzle and to maintain the dispersibility of the dye, but taking into account the effect on the viscosity of the ink, it is desirable to have a wetting agent of 45 wt% or less, and specifically,
Examples include aliphatic polyhydric alcohols such as ethylene glycol and triethylene glycol, and derivatives thereof.

As the basic substance, a strong basic substance that has excellent solubility in water and a wetting agent and is stable is desirable. Alkali metal hydroxides are examples of compounds that satisfy this condition, but potassium hydroxide is preferable in consideration of the effects of chemical reactions with wetting agents, and the pH value should be adjusted to between 12.0 and 13.5. As explained above, it goes without saying that the ink of the present invention satisfies the initial characteristics as an inkjet ink, and the addition of a volatile solvent not only increases the evaporation rate but also improves wettability. This has resulted in faster drying due to two effects.

The drying time was 4 to 5 seconds, which was a 40% to 60% reduction in drying time compared to the drying time of an ink with no volatile solvent added whose pH was adjusted from 12.0 to 13.5. Furthermore, the print quality has a very high circularity with a pH value of 1.
In comparison with printing using ink with no volatile solvent added, which was adjusted from 2.0 to 13.5, the color depth and shell shape were sufficiently comparable.
