  1. 【実用新案登録請求の範囲】 １　表示のための電極を設′けた二枚の基板により液晶
    層を平行に挟持した反射型の液晶素子において、素子の
    表面に光の波長程度のピッチをもつコレステリック層を
    形成したことを特徴とする液晶表示素子。 ２　液晶素子がＮ型液晶素子であって、上偏光板の表面
    にコレステリック層が形成されたことを特徴とする実用
    新案登録請求の範囲第一項記載の液晶表示素子。 ３−　液晶素子が黒色の二色性色素を用いたゲストホス
    ト型カラー表示素子であることを特徴とする実用新案登
    録請求の範囲第一項記載の液晶表示素子。 ４　コレステリック層がコレステリック相を示す高分子
    液晶材料からなることを特徴とする実用新案登録請求の
    範囲第一項記載の液晶表示素子。
