In conventional seat reclining devices, an arm fixed to the frame of the backrest is rotatably attached to a base fixed to the frame of the seat, the arm is locked to fix the backrest, and when the lock is released, the backrest is moved backwards. Devices that allowed the user to tilt and tilt forward were common.

Next, when the lock is released from the reclining or normal state, that is, when the engagement between the upper teeth 4 and the lower teeth 9 is released, the spring force of the return spring 5 begins to tilt the arm 1 forward, and the arm 1 becomes approximately vertical. When the other end 16b of the spring member 16 collides with the stopper 15 of the arm 1 (the state shown in Figure 3), the spring force of the return spring 5 is greater than the spring force of the spring member 16. Since it is set strongly, arm 1 rotates while slowing down the momentum of forward rotation, as shown in Figure 3C.
This results in a state of falling forward.

The action of the spring member 16 and the stopper 15 is shown in Fig. 5a.
As shown in ``-''c, when the arm 1 is tilted backwards, the stopper 15 does not touch the spring member 16, but when the arm 1 is tilted forward, the tip of the stopper 15 touches the spring member (plate) at a predetermined position. When the arm 1 collides with the belly of the spring 16 and further falls forward, the stopper 15 bends the spring member (plate spring) 16 (the spring force of the spring member 16 is acting on the arm 1), and the arm 1 Stopper 1 at maximum tilt

In each of the above-mentioned embodiments, the seat and backrest that make up the seat are not shown, but the rotation of the arm 1 is synonymous with the rotation of the backrest, and each member attached to the base 2 is moved toward the seat side. In other words, it can be said to be attached to.

As explained above, in the present invention, the lower end of the backrest (the lower end of the arm 1 in the embodiment) is rotatably attached to the seat (base 2 fixed to the seat frame 200 in the embodiment), and , is a seat reclining device equipped with a mechanism (mainly upper teeth 4 and lower teeth 8 in the embodiment) that locks the rotation of the backrest, and includes a return spring whose spring force acts to always tilt the backrest forward, and a backrest. The backrest has a spring member that applies a spring force in the opposite direction to the return spring when the backrest is tilted forward from a predetermined rotational position.

Therefore, the sudden forward tilt of the backrest caused by the return spring when the lock is released is alleviated by the spring member.
This prevents the operator from feeling uncomfortable.

Moreover, in order to raise the backrest from a forward-leaning state, the backrest can be raised easily and easily by the action of the spring force of this spring member, and operability is improved.

In addition, by making the spring force of the spring member weaker than the spring force of the return spring, the backrest tilts forward from a predetermined position while slowing down its rotation speed, so that the spring force of the spring member is applied to the backrest. This is more convenient than when the backrest stops tilting forward at the point where it starts to work.
