Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the crosstalk and also to improve the track density by decreasing both the width and the thickness of a track of the 1st main magnetic pole in the width and the traveling directions of said track respectively in comparison with those of a track of the 2nd magnetic pole. CONSTITUTION:A tracking signal of a low frequency is recorded in the track width direction of an SP head H by the 2nd magnetic pole 2a having large width. While a main signal of a high frequency is recorded to tracks 3a, 3b,... respectively by the 1st main magnetic pole 1a. Then an end or both ends 5a, 5b,... of tracks 3a, 3b,... where the main signal is recorded are erased by the tracking signal. This eliminates a gurd band as well as the effect of the crosstalk. At the same time, the lengthwise thickness of the track of the pole 2a is increased. As a result, no main signal is reproduced on a track by the pole 2a and only the tracking signal can be reproduced when the information recorded on a track is reproduced.

BACKGROUND ART Recently, perpendicular magnetic recording methods have been attracting attention, in which residual magnetization is formed in the thickness direction of a magnetic recording medium and main signals are recorded and reproduced on the magnetic recording medium at high density. According to this system, the shorter the wavelength of the recorded signal, the more the magnetic field can be reduced, and it is expected that high-density recording with excellent short wavelength characteristics will be possible.

FIG. 7 is a block diagram showing a signal reproducing section in the system of the present invention. In FIG. 7, the signal reproduced by the first main magnetic pole (za) having a narrow width in the track width direction is amplified by an amplifier (zOa) K, and then passed through a filter (//
), the tracking signal is removed, and only the data signal (main signal) is passed through the demodulation circuit (lJa).
demodulated data is obtained. In addition, the tracking signal reproduced by the first main magnetic pole (2a), which is wide in the track width direction, is amplified by an amplifier (10b), demodulated by a demodulation circuit (lcob), and then sent to a control circuit. (
7, 7) The track position is detected by K, and a control signal is sent to the motor drive amplifier (/l) K to drive the head control motor (13), which causes the head to move toward the track. Fine adjustments are made to occupy the correct position.
