DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention is a small inflatable ''pillow equipped with a pressure gauge to allow rescuers to properly control the force applied to the victim's chest when performing external cardiac resuscitation. ''.

For example, for an adult male, the correct pressure is approximately 4lk9 (90 bonds). If too little pressure is applied, even if circulation occurs, it will not be enough to prevent brain damage or even death. Conversely, if too much pressure is applied, fracture fractures, lung rupture, or other damage may occur. Furthermore, applying pressure to a small area of the chest can easily cause fracture fractures and other injuries, for example, if the elbows of the rescuer's hands compress the victim's ribs. Also, if the pressure is applied in uniform but rapid thrusts, the injury will increase as well, and if the pressure is not applied periodically and at the correct time intervals, satisfactory results will not be obtained. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a device in which the pressure applied during cardiopulmonary resuscitation with external inputs can be observed by the person administering this assistance.

A further object of the present invention is to provide an inexpensive and compact device that indicates the amount of pressure applied during cardiopulmonary resuscitation with external input.

The structure is orally inflated through a suitable inflation valve, such as those found in inflatables. The pressure gauge is constructed by placing an inflatable structure on a spring scale, applying various pressures to the structure (particularly in the range required for external cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and recording these pressures from the spring scale on the pressure gauge display surface. , can be scaled to indicate the pressure applied to the victim. From experience, gauge pressure is 0
.. It has been found that a pressure of 56 kg/d (8 bonds/in2) represents a downward force of 41 kg (90 bonds) on the expandable structure. In use, the external cardiac resuscitation aid described above is inflated by the mouth, placed on the lower sternum of the victim's chest, and pressure is applied to the victim's chest through the device.

The user must look at the pressure gauge each time pressure is applied (approximately once per second) to ensure the correct pressure is obtained. In another embodiment, an easily visible timer device, such as a stopwatch, is attached to the device to help the rescuer maintain the correct cycle.

Any other suitable adjustable timing device may be used, such as using audible and/or visual signals. Electronic or other timing devices and even small metronomes can be used. For example, two rescuers can perform compression and relaxation once every second (compression for half a second, relaxation for half a second).
In another embodiment, the timer device may be an integral part of the pressure gauge, for example if the pressure gauge is designed such that the needle of the pressure gauge must be relaxed to zero for a suitable time interval, e.g. 3 half seconds. Good too.

This elasticity tends to reduce the chance of injury to a patient when performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) because it provides a uniform distribution of pressure. Additionally, it tends to absorb the deleterious effects of improperly applied cardiopulmonary 44 resuscitation, such as sharp thrusts that are not uniform normal compressions. Therefore, one embodiment of the invention simply consists of an inflatable pillow or other similar type structure of a suitable material such as foam rubber for cardiopulmonary resuscitation applications. Such a device has value even if it does not have a pressure sensing device, a pressure indicating device, and the other characteristics described above. However, it can feature these other features or any combination thereof using a timed device. As a further improvement of the above embodiment,
A pressure-sensitive adhesive surface, such as medical adhesive tape, is provided on the bottom of the "pillow" or elastic cushion body.

This adhesive surface should have a removable cover. The rescuer can then place the device in the correct position, peel off the power strip, and place it on the victim's chest. The rescuer then stops CPR for a period of time to move or move the victim, or performs mouth-to-mouth resuscitation (rescuer 1
Because the device is in the correct position on the victim's chest, rescuers do not waste time reapplying cardiopulmonary resuscitation when they have to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (in the case of a person). Furthermore, the chance of damage occurring due to inadvertent application of pressure in a bad location is greatly reduced. Any type of suitable pressure sensing device combined with a suitable pressure indicating device can be used in carrying out the present invention.

For example, electrical transducers can be used to sense pressure within an inflatable pillow or to sense direct pressure applied through an elastic cushion to the victim. The pressure indicating device may be a visual and/or audible signal. The accompanying drawings, which cooperate with and constitute a part of this specification, illustrate the invention and, at the same time, serve to explain the principles of the invention.

The inflatable vinyl pillow 11 is provided with a one-way inflation valve 13 and a tube. Expansion valve 13 is optional if the device has its own enclosed source of air or other fluid. The elastic porous foam rubber or porous foam plastic pad 12 is an inflatable or expanded vinyl pillow 1
1, so that even if the pillow ruptures and can no longer hold air, the pillow can continue to be used. An adhesive layer 14 is placed on the bottom of the pillow and covered with a removable sheet 15. A soft instruction sheet 16 showing detailed instructions for use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation is attached to both the pressure gauge 17 of the pillow. The surfaces of the usage sheet 16 and the pressure gauge 17 are preferably provided with luminescent characters or other indicators so that they can be used in a dark place. Pressure gauge 17 may optionally be designed so that the needle of pressure gauge 3 requires half a second or other predetermined time interval for the needle of pressure gauge 3 to return to O and be released in order to provide a timed indication to the rescuer. I can do it. Another optional feature is that this relaxation time may be adjustable. This spacing characteristic is indicated at 17'' in FIG. The force and pressure exerted by the rescuer on the pillow is guided to the pressure gauge 17.
Directed above. Referring to FIG. 3, in this case the cushion or pillow 19 is constructed with a pad 12 of suitable elastic foam rubber or foam plastic or other suitable material to provide uniform pressure distribution and correct pressure during cardiopulmonary resuscitation applications. This reduces the harmful effects of not applying cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Usage Sheet 16 is also attached to inflatable pillow 20.
The pillow may be constructed of vinyl or other suitable material. This embodiment has the advantage of being collapsible and easy to attach to the human body and to store in small spaces. Although not shown, the adhesive features 14 and 15 of FIG. 2 can also be provided in this device. The present invention provides an inexpensive, portable, and compact device and method for assisting rescuers in administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation by directing the amount of pressure to be applied. The device also provides a predetermined time interval for the release of the pressure gauge to O, thereby giving rescuers time instructions and thereby continuing the correct cycle in applying cardiopulmonary resuscitation. I can do it. Studies have shown that up to 40% of people trained in CPR forget the original CPR technique three months after being trained. The present invention allows anyone to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation correctly, even if they are untrained or have forgotten their training. The invention in its broader aspects is not limited to the specific details shown and described and may be changed from the details without departing from the principles of the invention and without abandoning its principal advantages. You can.
